Dear Shri Parmar, This is

Dear Shri Parmar,

This is with reference to your query on setting up of dairy farm business. To set up a dairy farm, you may avail grant assistance under the Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) of Government of India.  The scheme is being implemented by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Under the scheme, you may receive back ended capital subsidy @ 25% of the project cost for general category and @ 33.33 % for SC/ST farmers.

To avail financial assistance under the scheme, Financial Institutions eligible for re-financing from NABARD under the scheme such as Commercial Banks, Regional, Rural and Urban Banks, State Cooperative Banks, State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Banks may be contacted. (Administrative Approval and Guidelines of the scheme for the Financial Year 2018-19 is attached herewith for your reference). For further details about the scheme and any other query related to the scheme, you may contact the nearest NABARD office which will provide necessary guidance in this regard.

You may also refer the Model Project for setting up 10 and 20 Cow Dairy Farm (indicative) for your reference at following link on NDDB’s Dairy Knowledge Portal:http://www.dairyknowledge.in/section/economics-model-dairy-farm

Depending upon choice of breed, you may plan to purchase:

·         Buffaloes: Mehsana buffaloes from Mehsana or Banaskantha areas or Murrah from Rohtak, Jind or Jhajjar districts of Haryana.

·         Cattle: HF pure from Bangalore/Kolar, CBHF from Sabarkantha or western Maharashtra (Ahmedanagar or Sangli) and Jersey CB from Chittor district of AP.

If you are already a member of any DCS at village level and supplying milk to the DCS, there is no requirement of registration of cattle shed/farm. Otherwise, you may link your dairy farm with Baroda Milk Union for sale of milk. For detailed information you may please contact Baroda Milk Union.

NDDB organizes Dairy Entrepreneurship Programme on Animal Husbandry, for progressive farmers.  Kindly send your request with details like: number of animals, village, name of farmer, phone number at email ID - anand@nddb.coop . Our Cooperative Training group will contact you when the training is scheduled.

Regards,

Reeti

Guideline for Dairy Farming business

Bear in mind that you will be dealing cows in this business and it is quite risky as the cows can get aggressive without warning. So you need to be experienced in handling cows and understanding their mood.
